Greater Manchester Police criticised by ICO

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) must improve its handling of internal reviews, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has said, after a number of failings were identified.

The ICO has issued practice recommendations to GMP as on various occasions freedom of information requests were not responded to within the recommended timescale.

The ICO had previously given advice and guidance to Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA) in the hope that the problems would be rectified without having to take further action. The ICO review highlights one particular case where GMP failed to respond to a request for information for more than 150 days.
