Grampian Police: The rising cost of translation

The amount of money spent on translators and interpreters by Grampian Police has increased almost fivefold in the past three years.

It paid out over £63,000 for the services of temporary language helpers in the year 2006-07, compared with £13,500 in 2003-04.

The figures, obtained by the Press and Journal using the Freedom of Information Act, show that just over £33,000 has been spent so far in the current financial year.
