Campaign groups welcome government's decision to consult on extending FoI

The Campaign for Freedom of Information and the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom have welcomed the Government's decision, announced on 25 October, to drop proposals to restrict the Freedom of Information Act.

Instead the Government has announced it will consult on extending the scope of the Act to certain kinds of private bodies and on changing the 30-year rule. The CFOI's director Maurice Frankel said: "We are extremely pleased that instead of restricting the Act the Government is proposing to extend it."
