Nearly a quarter of drivers in Britain penalised for speeding in the past four years

Nearly a quarter of drivers in Britain have been penalised for speeding in the past four years, according to official figures.

At least £500million was paid out in fines by around 7million drivers who were caught speeding.
And around 1million who broke the speed limit have notched up more than one conviction. In total, the DVLA recorded 8.4million endorsements for speeding by 7.08million of Britain's estimated 30million motorists.


A total of 13.4million endorsements involving 11.2million drivers were recorded, according to the figures which were released after a Freedom of Information request.
