Airport security costs £1.2 million for Lothian & Borders Police

The cost of security at Edinburgh Airport due to the increased terror threat has left Lothian and Borders Police with a £1.2 million bill. Anti-terror measures and growing passenger numbers have resulted in the rise of policing costs at the airport since 2001.

BAA contributed around three-quarters of the almost £1.8m cost of the police operation in 2005/6. But figures released to the Evening News under freedom of information laws show that Lothian and Borders Police have had to pick up a bill of around £400,000 a year over the past three years.
