322 sex offenders on the loose

Police have lost track of more than 300 sex offenders who have provided only vague addresses for an official register. In London there are 88 sex offenders missing, 25 in the West Midlands and 18 in the area around Manchester.

Information from all 50 police forces in Britain obtained under freedom of information laws disclosed that 322 convicted sex offenders are unaccounted for by the police.

Police Federation chairman Jan Berry said they had warned three years ago of a loophole which allowed offenders to escape monitoring by giving only vague addresses when they were entered on the Sex Offenders Register.
