Irish State Claims Agency pays out over €1m

In Ireland, the widow of a garda detective who was accidentally shot dead by a colleague while on duty has received compensation of €950,000 from the Department of Justice.

Details of the compensation were contained in figures released last week under the Freedom of Information Act by the Department of Justice and the State Claims Agency. The payment was part of the €1.1m paid out by the agency following claims made by civilians and gardai against the force.
