FOI request reveals high levels of violence in Scottish hospitals

Figures obtained by Scotland on Sunday under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act show that over the past five years there have been at least 477 incidents where Scottish hospital staff were so violently attacked by patients or members of the public that they needed to go to Accident & Emergency units in order to be treated by a resident doctor or for X-ray examinations. The figures underestimate the true extent of violence in Scottish hospitals, since Scotland on Sunday only received statistics from 9 of Scotland's 15 health boards.
