Irish care home inspection reports released under FOI

Inspection reports published under FOI have revealed that patients in some of Ireland’s private nursing homes have suffered overcrowded, unhygienic and run-down conditions. Some people have been cared for incorrectly and administered drugs wrongly, according to the reports.

Health Service Executive inspectors recorded adverse reports at 33 of Ireland's 465 private nursing homes in 2004. The Sunday Times obtained 13 of these reports. A few found only minor faults, while the problems at others have since been addressed.
