FOI in action: Railtrack investors seek access to government files

Lawyers acting for Railtrack shareholders are preparing to use the UK Freedom of Information Act to access sensitive government files that they hope will prove that the company was put into administration unlawfully by the former transport secretary, Stephen Byers.

Memos and minutes of meetings are to be requested concerning a ruling made by the Office of National Statistics on October 1st 2001. Whitehall e-mails have also been uncovered which shed some light on the demise of Railtrack.
